Seuss Day- 17- Wacky Wednesday

Wacky Wednesday was all WACKY
I read them the book- they loved it! We created a book of all things wacky. I was a bit wacky, so several children drew me!

Okay, so this isn't the best photo of me, I had 6 pig-tails in all day and by the time I got home after 6, my head was about to explode :(
The other Mrs. R came in and thought I was off my rocker lol then thought to ask what book we were celebrating today- so she thought I should make a sign :)  I was thinking of sending the staff an email telling them that I wasn't crazy lol
I wore two different shoes and two different Dr. Seuss socks!

Tomorrow is our culminating day for Dr. Seuss a bittersweet day for all of the class.

Seuss Day- 16- Maybe You Should Fly a Jet

Who do you want to be when you grow up? We read the book Maybe You Should Fly a Jet today and dress up for our futures :)

I used cars and planes for our stickers :)

We wrote a classbook and illustrated what we wanted to be when we grew up:

Mr. G- wore a Nike Shirt- to be a shoe salesman.
Ms. AP- wants to be a doctor.
Ms. C- wants to be a doctor.
Ms. AF wants to be cook.
Ms. D- wants to be an artist.
Mr. S- wants to be a wrestler.
Ms J- wants to be a bride.
Mr. K- wants to be a super ninja.
Mr D- wants to be a policeman.
Mr. M- wants to be a pilot.
Mr. B- wants to be a Jedi.
Ms. E- wants to be a princess. (Her mother called before school to check if her daughter could be a princess, I said, "Of course. Kate Middleton will be a princess, so can E!"
Mr. F- wants to be a ninja.
Ms. AL- wants to be cheerleader.
Ms. I- wants to be a cheerlarder.

I dressed up as a teacher, because that is really what I wanted to be when I was a little kid! :)

It really made it all worth it when Ms. E's mom called to ask about her outfit. She told me how she enjoyed dressing up and being in the photos. :) Warms my heart.

Care-o-gram

In high school my music teacher made these for students who were sick.  I am carrying on her tradition by doing this with the first graders. If the kids are out sick for more than a day, we fill this out for them.

One Fish Two Fish- the stuffed animal is off to the side.
Here is Fox in Socks with the stuffed animal.
Green Eggs and Ham and Hop on Pop.
Here is Horton's Corner.
Cat in the Hat- that is a pillow case as the covering.
Book bags on top and some of the books displayed.
More books to be displayed along with a shirt off the side.
Shower curtain and throw blanket.

Yes we are a little Seuss crazy- we didn't even put out everything we had.

Seuss Decorations

A few years back in our ASP our library EA had the students color these. We saved them and put them up every year.

In years past, we have hung them around the school and the students went on a treasure hunt following the clues to each book during our monthly family fun night.  I has tamed down a bit, so now just the Cat in the Hat Shows up.

Wet Pet

We read the charted story of Wet Pet in the ASP.  It all came from this book:
They didn't know what the book looked like, so they HAD to use their imaginations.

Zeds have one blue hair upon their heads.  Yink's drink pink ink!

Seuss- Green Eggs and Ham

We do a poem of the week in first grade.

This poem was very easy to read.  Then I shared the song with them.  They loved the ending, when they hear the egg crack!!

The song came from this CD:

If I Ran the Zoo- Seuss

We celebrated Dr. Seuss in the ASP as well. I didn't tell them what we were doing so it wouldn't influence them. I told them to write their favorite animal down. Then to write down another animal down. Then I told them that Dr. Seuss' dad was a zoo keeper. So to honor him, he wrote the book If I Ran the Zoo. I really needed to pull out the creativity of some of the older kids. I kept saying the wackier the better. :)

This child came up with this animal and all of the potential names for it!!!!

They did a fabulous job!!!

Seuss Day- 14 I Wish that I had Duck Feet

I Wish that I Had Duck Feet was our chosen book for the day.

When the children do their homework, they get a big sticker. If they do their reading minutes, they get to fill up their sticker charts. I have searched through two drawers of stickers to find the perfect ones each day.
Today we had ducks and then FEET!  ha ha :)

I had them draw themselves with with some body part of an animal. They were so adorable, but guess who forgot to photograph them? We are on spring break this coming week, so I will have to run in to grab them and water our "Truffula" seeds that we planted.

We wore some type of animal today, so here I am:
This is not really my style, but you know how I love frogs. :)  I love how the little guy sticks out at the top!

Seuss Day- 13 Green Eggs and Ham

Today was St. Patty's day, so I had the kids wear green and read the book Green Eggs and Ham.

I got this cool shirt for Christmas, so I wore it today. Even had Grinch socks but I didn't wear them- I debated for a while, but I opted for my St. Patty's day socks instead. :)

We aren't reading the Grinch Who Stole Christmas, but I am still showing my love for the Grinch :)

We read the book and followed the recipe from Kim Adsit's Hooray for Seuss unit on making green eggs. We then drew and wrote how to make them using her writing frame.

I brought in my electric skillet in to make green eggs. You would not believe how excited they were to cook! I brought in my silicon wisk from Pampered Chef for them to scramble an egg. They had a blast, I couldn't believe how excited they were to cook!!!!

One of the other first graders was handing these out- said there were pot of gold ones, but they were all gone :( How adorable!!!

Seuss Day- 11 Many Colored Days

My Many Colored Days was our book of the day today.  My 90 year old grandma made the rainbow cupcakes for our day :)

She used Family Fun's recipe. We didn't frost them- we ate them just the way they were!!!!  The kids were soooooooo excited.

I had the kids wear only one color today. We used the the Many Colored Days template from Chalktalk.

Seuss Day- 10 Eye Book

We got our peepers out to check out The Eye book but it is gone or vanished (RDW)

We wore funky glasses.  We ate pretzels and took crazy photos with our glasses on. We also drew what they looked like. Great job everyone!

Dental Health

In the ASP, we talked about Dental Health. With the K-1 children I supplied this graphic for them. I shrunk the graphic down a little bit so it would fit on the science log page.
The older children had to draw it themselves.
On another day, we talked about the tooth and its parts.
The older kids drew and labeled their own tooth in their science logs:
With the kindergartners and first graders, we played this game from Colgate:
We played it as a group with only two pieces one for boys one for girls. We picked one card and moved that many squares. If that square had nothing on it the  children had to tell us something healthy to care for our teeth. While we waited we did the tooth dance. We made it up.
We pretend to brush our teeth and swing our hips while singing "chchchchchcchch brush your teeth"
We kept just going around the board.
