Spin a Word

I saw a pin on Pinterest, so I have been busy making them to share.
Included is the spinner and recording sheet.

Directions: Using a paper clip and pencil or brad in the middle,
the child will spin and then write down the letter that they got on the recording sheet.

Turkey Spinner

Winter- I just tried with the background- would you prefer it with or without?

What other ones can you think of?

I was thinking:

*Rain forest
*Halloween
*Zoo Animals

New November Materials

ThistleGirl Graphics just created a new Turkey set check out these cool ideas!
Click on the titles to check out the newest products.

She also made this awesome Nutcracker graphic set :)
These next two cube rolls are a little easier and only have 4 columns.
There are two different versions:
One the children look at the feather colors the other set look at the bandannas- I called them "ties" I thought it would be easier!
Be the first to rate one of these products on TPT, get that product for free!!!

Rain Guages

I am not sure if you can see them at first glance, but there a bunch of rain gauges
in the grass.  We taped a copy of four unifix cubes and a tongue depressor on the outside.
When we went to check on them, they were a little frozen! (ick!!!)
The child says to another, "Look at my leaf.  It is swimming in a hot tub!"

Here was the blackline that we recorded how much rain had fallen the last few days.
One unifix cube- wow!  I didn't know it rained that much!

Nutrition and Food Pyramid

A while back I got these materials- one would think maybe I should use them!!!

I got this pyramid at www.ColoringCastle.com

We found A-Z fruits with the 3-5.
We brainstormed them together in K-2:

Next time I teach this, I will use a grape drawing and add other fruits!

When we talked about dairy. I drew a cow and the fifth graders helped me by coloring it!
(how did I not take a photo of this????)
Good thing the students ROCKED!!!!!!

(So here is a little funny- I said to draw a 'fat' cow, so
that there would be enough room to write all of
our ideas. So at the end, the student and I did have a little giggle
when I realized what she wrote!

On our last day, I drew a rocket ship graphic- well that is what it looked like to us!
I started with drawing most of a kite, but not meeting at the bottom.
It was too difficult to make it a 3D thing.
Here is K's:
We did it all together.

Here is the first graders (We did it all together)

Here is what we did together with the second graders.
I am even getting better drawing by here! Yes I did 3 of them!

I drew the rocket ship for the 2nd graders, but 3-5th drew their own.
We also talked about that they needed 60 minutes of exercise each day-
they needed to decide what they were going to do for 60 minutes.

We sang this song:

First line you insert the child's name and the other lines, the child picks a veggie and everyone sings it.

Light

Our essential question was What color is white?
We made glasses and put in special lenses.
Here is what it looked like looking through the glasses.
The scientist told us we could never look at the sun.
However, we could look at Christmas lights :)

Liquids

We did a science experiment with two identical glasses,
oil, water and a coaster.
When you flip them over, see what happens!!!
(A suggestion is to do it over a clear container- one that is big enough to hold
both liquids!- so all of the children can see)

Red Ribbon Week

We celebrated Red Ribbon Week during which time we
decorated bookmarks.
Each class had a winner!
Our mascot is a jaguar,
so our bookmarks said
"These Paws don't touch drugs!

Word Work

One of the choices we have for Word Work.
I only change my Word Work
twice a year.
As the Sisters would say
"Use as tools, not toys"

Here are two menus that I used last year.
I had students put this in their Word Work notebook
and create their work in their.

You might notice little * on some of the choices,
those were the ones that the children would take photos of.

One of the things that I do for Wikki Sticks, is to have the children
lay their papers over the top and rub a crayon over the top.

Keep your cool

Here is our traveling penguin reminding students to keep cool at school.
This is the second grade one.

The penguin moves from room to room and the students
are very excited to have them in their rooms!
It would be awesome if each grade had one as well.
Not necessarily a penguin though.
Our school follows a school wide program where we are
SAFE*RESPONSIBLE*RESPECTFUL

Moving West

I visited a second grade class and we created this wagon web.
I made mine on the smart board and they recreated it
in their writing notebooks.

They had followed a web quest to get the information.  I think I might try this even with older children.

They had a packet to fill out information and then used it to write paragraphs.
