Super Scents & Boo Boo's

A million years ago, before Pinterest (what??) I made these Super Scents. I think I found the idea from KinderKim

I printed mine on regular paper and used packing tape to attach. I'm thinking labels might work well too :)  Here is a copy for you to print out

I use Scento Markers on their papers and Super Scents on their hands. I put it on the hand that they DON'T write with because they are trying to smell and work at the same time.  Even my most sensory overloaded child loved them!!  I wasn't sure she would even be up for that, but I asked and sure enough- SUCCESS!!!

They never touch someone's mouth and no one has ever had a reaction.  There was some hub-bub in one of my groups and those who it was new to the concept were concerned. Many chimed in to try to clear up any misconceptions. 

I pick out one right away in the morning after they do morning work, I get another one.  I *might* have a lot... lol  Here is mine:

Anyways-- here is another idea that is on her Tips Page "Boo Boo Lotion".  As she says to get the lotion from hotels... ummm yeah, I don't go to hotels lol  So two ideas.  Get small little bottles from dollar store or get a huge bottle and then get empty little bottles in the travel section from HBA section in a store like WalMart or Target maybe even Dollar Tree.

Along the lines of boo boo's I have a Boo Boo binder.  I got the printables and have used it with kinder kids through 3/4th graders.

Cafe for Emergent Readers

My children for summer school are well under their way of hard workers! Most days we have built our stamina up to 15 minutes!  We are only on day 11... that is amazing.  They ask every rotation how long they worked.  I am amazed to say the least- even in our sauna aka our classroom.

We aren't yet to the standard Cafe menu and are using the Emergent readers one.

I have created several helpful tools for assessment.  One I created was recognizing the difference between upper and lower case letters.

Another one that I created was between letters and words.

For one of my students, I did create one that had letters and numbers:

These Non Standard activities children measure pictured items with the strip at the bottom.

Valentine Shake Up

With the shake up games, you need an egg carton and two counters.

For this one, I use those conversation hearts lol

Depending on what skill you need.  So say you want your students to work on adding or multiplying, put two conversation hearts in the carton, close the egg carton, shake and open.  Children add or multiply the numbers where they hearts landed.

Higher level children, write bigger numbers on the bottoms :) 

I write whatever I want on garage sale dots, that way I can change them when necessary!

You could also use letters on the bottom.  You could have them write the letters on a dry erase board.

Also, the 16th comment will receive their choice of any of the above activities for FREEE!!!!

Freebie Friday

In honor of a fellow teacher, I offer you a freebie.

I have been wanting to make a shaker for a while and finally decided to do it.  

So to honor Pam of Vintage Teacher 

I created this set for my students. Since I work with multi-aged children, I used the same bottle with two different answer keys.

I used Sunny Day's creations for the older children and the freebie for the younger children. Since my older ones are only in first grade, I am giving them the "answer sheet" with heart erasers to cover the answers they find. I will also allow them to work with a partner, since I only have one container!  lol

I saw a pin on Pinterest, so I have been busy making them to share.

Included is the spinner and recording sheet.

Directions: Using a paper clip and pencil or brad in the middle, 

the child will spin and then write down the letter that they got on the recording sheet.

Inventors and Inventions

Here are some of the books we used for our unit.

I wrote names on sentence strips along with what they invented.

I had 2-5 children record in their science log.

I had the K-1 children draw their favorite invention. I wrote who the inventor was if they couldn't.

We talked about how the inventions changed our lives.

I wrote a small easy reader where the children draw what each inventor invented.

Weather

Part of the science curriculum is to talk about weather.

Our science kits come with these awesome stamps.

To introduce this, I recreated this on the board.

It was identical to this sheet- I was hoping 

that there would be no mistakes, but alas... we are first graders!

I put the stamp sets at each table.

All the cloudy ones at one

precipitation at another

and wind at the last.

Even if you don't have the stamps, you could just have them draw their own or you could find weather graphics and the students could glue them in the correct spots. I would still operate the same way, with the children moving from table to table to glue the correct icons in the correct spots.

Clip Charts

I absolutely love the clip chart behavior system.


I am going to also be using it in my after school program as well. Since I mainly focus on science themes, I figure that my charts should be science related, well I came across this fabulous one with frogs!  Well that is a given!  I got this from Over The Moonbow

The other once I wanted to have science related clip-art from Thistle Girl Graphics.  I have recently seen many creative ideas for "theming" them up.


So I need to "theme-up" one for science.

Yeah, I am so not happy with those, they aren't really good.  So here's the deal, if  you could help me figure out some awesome science words for my clip-chart, I will share it when it is done. :)

NowI have been thinking and cleaning... and *POP*  what about if I use the Muppets! Namely Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker!! I collect Muppet Figures, so I can have them there too :)  There is a new Muppet movie coming out, so that is  awesome!!!!!
