Dino Days- Day 4

Stegosaurus

Ignore my crazy drawing lol I did a directed drawing 3 or 4 times lol
We followed what the facts told us.
With the K-2 children I asked them to draw a picture.

Dino Days- Day 3

All about the Apatosaurus!

Oh I think I have forgotten how we get the facts!!!

Well I printed a copy of pages from Deanna's unit,
cut the facts apart and
placed in a cup.
I couldn't find a dino bag so a plain old cup was all I had. :(

Microscopes

Our after school program worked on microscopes.  I made this one.
You can't see it, but there are packing tape strips around the drawing for the k-3 to label.
Here is our rolling cabinet of microscopes.
I had the older scientists draw and label their own:

I think they did a fabulous job!

Oil Spill

So that is what happens when there is an oil spill and they use soap... Doesn't really help just spreads it out. :(
The lady in the video is from a local college and when she says, "Are you ready?'  She is talking to me because I missed it the first time!  Opps!

They have derived  a new way to clean up messes though which I found amazing! That uses ground up carpet pad {I think} I can't get the video to load :(

Ocean Swimming

During our ocean unit, we used this chart. The other R wrote it.
I think know she loves making charts lol
The chart is actually a song Alloutte
 There were these cards:
Then I hung them on the chart with a paper clip.
When we finished with the ocean creatures, we picked the children's names :)

Melting Styrofoam

We wrote something bad that we wanted to get rid of- war on a Styrofoam strip.
Then we placed it in acetone and it kind of "melts"

This is what happens later:
It looks like this in the container:

Penguins

They are more than cute and cuddly creatures! We learned all about penguins over the past two weeks.
This was day one- we wrote down all of the names of the penguins. The K-1 children traced over the names.  The 2-5th grade children had to investigate to find the names.
Day two, we color coordinated where they lived.
We added a B, a P, an R, and a P.
What the mom and dad do.

Here are some of the penguins that the children drew:

I asked the students to find me their favorite penguin page.  Here they are:

Up up and Away we go

Space! Several teachers from our school were lucky enough to go to Space Camp in Alabama this past summer. We are going to take what they learned and put it into action!
Here is the actual space suit that Mrs R wore when she went to space camp this summer.

Here is a song we hope to sing daily!

To Infinity and Beyond part three

A song that we sang:
 Neptune facts:
 Awesome planets!
All of the children did this to conclude our space unit.  I lightly wrote it for the K-1's so they could trace it.  The others had to write it themselves. I had them put stars around Earth.
 Uranus facts:
We graphed which planet we wanted to visit.

To Infinity and Beyond part two

Here is my friend D's rocket ship.

Here is a rocket  and the moon:
Rocket and moon- guess that was a favorite of many :)

Here is S's page of theme words.
 Great telescope!
 My friend I's illustrations:

To Infinity and Beyond

Here is a pocket chart that we did. There is a "poem" that goes along with this.  You hide the astronaut behind one of the planets. I didn't really like the "poem" because it didn't really rhyme lol
*Note to self: write new one :)
We also read this one. We shuffled this pocket chart around. I handed out the  graphics and had another child read the line, the child that had the graphic, put it in the chart.
I tell the children that I will take a photo if they do their best work. Since it is the end of our space travel, I had the children find their favorite page.

This is my friend S. We aren't sure why she was pointing lol
