Here's the mini-haul

Mr. Potato Head
All About Me unit.

everything that is included:

There were some other doctor stuff but these looked the best!
The teeth and the toothbrush look sturdy.

Here were some Gnomes that I will turn into pointers.

Here are some Pop-Its.
Even some fun and different ones.
Some for basic fidget-ing and some for morning work- placing smaller pom-poms in the spots.

Measurement and Dental Health

My students really loved using this Teeth Unit to measure items.

by: First Grade Teaching
www.first-grade-teaching.com

I hung the graphics around the room and the students took their recording sheets around with them to write down their answers.

To begin our unit, I have the children write down our LG's (Learning Goals)

These are the words the 4-5th graders brainstormed:

We made teeth in our Science Logs.
The K-1's picked the cards and told the group
if it was good or bad.

We did talk about eating things in moderation as well.

We made a "Have you lost a tooth?" graph

Here is what we did with the 2nd-3rd graders

Stay tuned for my new measurement resources and what I will be using in April.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When the children loose teeth, they get a sticker and a pencil. A teacher friend of mine  uses the pencil on the left "I lost a tooth." Here is the HELP that I need.  She can't find anymore of these pencils :(

So where do you get your "I lost a tooth" pencils???
We would be forever grateful for your help!

Since we can't find anymore tooth pencils, she had these erasers, so I just picked a pencil and popped a tooth eraser on top :)

Finally!!!!!!!!!

Finally the toothbrushes have arrived!!! I don't understand why it takes so long to get them. Don't they know when dental health month is??? lol  I am grateful that I can share them with my students, but dental health month was in February.

I came home earlier this week and my husband has brought them in for me.

Even though dental health month is over, healthy teeth are always important!  I plan to do something special from The First Grade Parade's dental unit.

There wasn't anything new to add to my collection. I still have the video, CD's and game board.

Dental Health

In the ASP, we talked about Dental Health. With the K-1 children I supplied this graphic for them. I shrunk the graphic down a little bit so it would fit on the science log page.
The older children had to draw it themselves.
On another day, we talked about the tooth and its parts.
The older kids drew and labeled their own tooth in their science logs:
With the kindergartners and first graders, we played this game from Colgate:
We played it as a group with only two pieces one for boys one for girls. We picked one card and moved that many squares. If that square had nothing on it the  children had to tell us something healthy to care for our teeth. While we waited we did the tooth dance. We made it up.
We pretend to brush our teeth and swing our hips while singing "chchchchchcchch brush your teeth"
We kept just going around the board.
