Earth Day

I know this is early, but it just worked out like that!
This week is all about Earth Day and recycling.
I got these booklets recently and couldn't wait to use them!
There are books for every age level.
This poster was included in the program.

Going to use these poems under the ELMO.

With K-2 we will sort items in my pocket chart.  3-5 will create in their science logs.
I will be using these for word work.
I laminate the spinner and the recording sheet.
One option is they have to write the letters as they get them,
or you may want to have those letters available.
Still another way is just to have out some
kind of counter and as the children spin
they put a counter under the letter.
This saves paper- each child doesn't have to
have a page and two
sometimes even using markers
is a pain to clean up too!

Recycle- easy version

Seuss Reading

Sometimes, with my higher reading groups, I let them do an independent author study.

I found all of my Seuss books and put them around the entire room.  Yes it goes around the whole room lol

Anyways, with my top readers, they all get this sheet and a recording sheet.

I make theirs in black and white.  I do copy it on the
picture setting on my copy machine.

So after they read the book, they color in the hat under each book.

On their recording sheet.
they record the date they read it.

We have a 3 hat system if the book is
okay, good, great

They shade in 1, 2 or 3.

Then they tell me their favorite part.
On non-fiction books, I ask them to list a fact.

EDITED TO ADD- THE LINKS AREN'T WORKING, BUT I WILL UPDATE WHEN THER ARE

PLUS I WILL HAVE A MO WILLEMS ONE TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

March Homework Calendar

Here is the month of March Homework Calendar.

Here is March's homework calendar.  Do you need it modified for your own school calendar?  For example my school has off the last week of school.  Please let me know, and I can make a special one for your needs.  After you purchase the calendar, email me at kinderpond@yahoo.com and I will change it to fit your individual needs.  I look forward to working with you!

Space Day 6

Today we continued to dance around the stars and we made our own.

I really wanted to make the ones I saw here, but I really don't have enough time for it. :(

So I am giving the children black paper and white crayons.  For the K-1 children, I am also going to give them star stickers and they will connect the stars.  Well our school ran out of black paper, so I used purple.  Sometimes the night sky is purple or maybe it was dark, or maybe because it is my favorite color.  Actually, the next darkest color was green, but that really didn't work lol

I had the  students create and name their own constellations.

  The Knight Light! ha!

His name begins with ant- so here is his
Antcow!

Space Day 4

Today we climbed onto our spaceships and journeyed to outer space.  Last year we did a planet or two a day, but this year, we just did a quick little trip to the entire solar system.

Some of them were disappointed to learn that they now consider Pluto a dwarf planet and were mad- so I let them add it anyways!

One of the 5th graders came up with this saying to remember the planets:
My
Very
Evil
Mother
Just
Served
Us
Nothing

I don't think that is the way I learned it though, I think the evil was educated {lol}

With the K-1 we just put them in order.  Yes I know these aren't in order, I had to quick take the photo because I forgot lol  I used those little mini pocket charts from Target.

First I showed these cards and then I displayed the larger ones on my easel.  I had them draw their favorite planet in  their logs.

If you look in the upper right hand corner, that is the sheet that I had the 2nd- 3rd graders fill out.

With the 4th and 5th graders, I had them draw and label their own.

(so as you may have noticed all of these charts- the other Mrs. R makes them-
if I didn't know any better, I'd think her middle name is Charts!!!
She has charts for anything and everything!
For example, she has charted several Dr. Seuss books.
In the past she has gone all out.
We create a Seussville in her room.
I hang what seems to be 1,000
Cat in the Hats from her ceiling.}

Perhaps, she should be my shout-out Saturday :)

Space Day 5

We are going star hunting today.

I bought this Star Theater last year after we did space.  I have waited a whole year to use it!

I found a closet that we can go in to do this.  The students think it is soooooo funny that we go in there!
It is dark and I can turn off all of the lights.  There aren't any windows, so it is perfect!

{We also go in there when we make rainbows!}

We talked about how how a group of stars make up constellations.  That even though there are lines, they really aren't there.  The children are very excited to make their own!

Stay tuned until tomorrow when we create our very own constellations!

Remember that I have a whole bunch of other ideas here:

To infinity and beyond

Space Day 3

We continued into space today as we discovered what astronauts can/have/are.

I just have to share some of these astronauts with you.
I know there are a ton of photos but,
some of these are so stinkin'
cute, I have to share!!!!

Valentine's Day

Well the students made valentine card holders
 {brown paper bags- which I forgot to photo!?!?}

We brainstormed things to add.
We did have an arrow through a heart- wonder where that went lol
The colored in heart was teaching them to make a heart
that I learned from Dr. Jean!
First you make two circles right next to each other,
then you draw a V to connect them and color in
Perfect heart every time!

We also talked about cupid as well.
How he shoots you with a plunger.
So I make sure they know NOT
to use the plunger at home.
A child added, yes it is clean!

That my friends, is why I love being a teacher-
practical and valuable knowledge!

Frog Scoot

So Jen R over at Teacher's Cauldron
created this awesome freebie.

There are answers, but to make it multi-leveled,
I made these answer cards to accompany them.

Target Finds

I have the larger one of these. They are well over a foot long.
 I have a love/hate relationship with them.

They are so big, they make my book bins fall over :(
So I was excited to see smaller versions of them today in the Dollar Spot.

Space Day 1 and 2

We began our unit with a glyph from Abby's unit.

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Astronaut-Activities-124676
So we did this with all of the children K-5.
Ominiword....  it took the 5th graders to color and
cut it out just as long as the kinders!!?!?!?!?!
Ummm... what????

Here is the finished product:

In totally unrelated shares... one of my students stood at the far desk,
yes the 5th one away, and get this....
he bounced a ball and it hit each desk on the top!!!!!!!!!!

If I could video it, he'd be famous!!!!!!!!!!!!!

100th Day of School

We did this in math today.
Since this was in First Grade, it was a little difficult.
Instead of just saying the number,
I said ten more than a number.
Ten less than a number.
Also thrown in there was a number between a number.
Ex: I am between 27 and 25.

We brought in snacks.  In each class we weighed them, we found the lightest and the heaviest.
Then we "battled" it out against the other classes.
Then we added our food for a mixture.
 We did a book:
I used coffee filters to hand out snack.
Here is how one person will look in 100 years:

We went to the computer lab and used Pixie to make 100 things:

 {Yes I know there aren't 100 things here, he had to use three pages :)}

This little gal, stacked them on top of each other :)
