Oil Spill

So that is what happens when there is an oil spill and they use soap... Doesn't really help just spreads it out. :(
The lady in the video is from a local college and when she says, "Are you ready?'  She is talking to me because I missed it the first time!  Opps!

They have derived  a new way to clean up messes though which I found amazing! That uses ground up carpet pad {I think} I can't get the video to load :(

Snap it Up

The first graders played the game Snap it Up! during word work D5 time.  There are two types of cards in there, the yellow (on the back) which were the consonants and the green cards were the vowels.

This is a commercial game but one you could make yourself just as easy. Something I just realized is that their vowels are blue and consonants are red- this is backwards for me lol

If I made this game, I would make it out of cardstock scrapbook paper so it would be cuter on the backside.

Dollar Tree Tuesday's

So while I was searching at Target's Dollar Spot, I came across these critters:

I plan to use them for grater than or less than activities when I shine numbers on the board.

I honestly don't know what their purpose is- I think hot pad replacements maybe?

Space Shuttle Launch

On Friday during summer school, I along with my 5th and 6th graders watched the last shuttle launch.  Thanks to http://www.survivingateacherssalary.com/ for showing me the wonderful link.  I had no idea that it was the day for the launch.  Facebook isn't always bad :)

Here was the count down clock:
Here is the launch as it was happening.
I told my students that some day someone was going to ask them where they were when the last shuttle launched.  I am glad that we were apart of history.  Can you guess what our writing topic will be on Monday? :)

Ocean Swimming

During our ocean unit, we used this chart. The other R wrote it.
I think know she loves making charts lol
The chart is actually a song Alloutte
 There were these cards:
Then I hung them on the chart with a paper clip.
When we finished with the ocean creatures, we picked the children's names :)
